Fitness fans everywhere will be coming together soon for the annual competition - Joe Weider’s Olympia 2022. This year isn’t going to be one to miss. I’s bigger and better than ever, with more athletes, competitions, and fun for all the fitness enthusiasts in America and beyond.

What is The Olympia?

The Olympia is a fitness and performance weekend and expo. It’s held every year, bringing together the best in the business of bodybuilding. Bodybuilders train all year to reach their peak during the Olympia weekend, where they’ll be competing against other pros to get the infamous title - Mr. Olympia.

 

But it’s not just men invited to compete in this event. There are competitions for women, including the equally esteemed Ms. Olympia. You’ll be able to compete if you’re an amateur or pro, so long as you’ve registered or been invited through qualifiers.

Even if you’re not competing, there will be plenty to do. We’re talking meet and greets, talks by some of the greats, fitness booths, new products, and more. It’s not just a competition, it’s a convention!

 

According to the Olympia website, it’s the biggest lineup in Olympia history. Like we said, you’re not going to want to miss this weekend!

 

When is The Olympia 2022?

This year, The Olympia competition is going to be held on December 15-18 in Las Vegas, Nevada at Planet Hollywood on the Vegas strip.

Who is Joe Weider?

Joe Weider was a Canadian bodybuilder and entrepreneur who died aged 93 after a long-standing career dedicated to his love for bodybuilding and fitness. He co-founded the International Federation of BodyBuilders (IFBB) alongside his brother Ben.

 

As you may have guessed, he was the creator of Mr. Olympia, Ms. Olympia, and the Masters Olympia bodybuilding contests. That’s how they got their name!

 

What is the History of the Olympia?

The Olympia was initially started as a competition just for men, in only one category. If you look back at the first ever event, which was held on September 18, 1965, the competitors are a lot smaller than they are now. That’s because the art of bodybuilding had yet to be well-established, so many bodybuilders were putting on mass largely based on trial and error.

 

The first ever Mr. Olympia was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York City, with Larry Scott winning his first of two straight titles.

 

Today, The Olympia is considered the most prestigious award in bodybuilding.

 

How Much Do You Win in The Olympia 2022?

Since its inception, the prize winnings for The Olympia title has increased. As of 2022, it’s bigger than ever, set to more than $1.6 million. But that doesn’t all go to Mr. Olympia - it’s shared across the other competitions. However, Mr. Olympia is the highest paying event.
