If you’re new to the world of bodybuilding, here’s everything you need to know about Mr. Olympia, and why you should drop in and enjoy the buzz.
What is Mr. Olympia?
Joe Weider's Mr. Olympia is an international bodybuilding competition held every year in the United States. It’s run and managed by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB), which is considered the governing board of bodybuilding in the fitness community.
The winner of the professional men's bodybuilding contest will be titled Mr. Olympia, which is how the event got its name. But it’s not just for men. In fact, women make up a huge part of this annual contest. The female bodybuilder will be crowned Ms. Olympia.
There are a number of other events aside from the Mr and Ms. Olympia events, so you’re bound to find something that will interest you or be suited to your training and physique.
What bodybuilding competitions happen at the Mr. Olympia weekend?
Here are the other events that you can expect to enjoy this weekend at the Olympia and a little bit about each of them:
So why is the Olympia competition so popular? Many of the world’s best bodybuilders have won the title of Mr and Ms. Olympia and have used it to catapult their career.
Who won Mr. Olympia?
The first Mr. Olympia was held in 1965, with Larry Scott winning the title. This was followed by Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, and Franco Columbu - all of whom are considered to be among the greatest bodybuilders the world has ever seen.
It’s clear as to why Mr. Olympia is such a popular competition for bodybuilders, and why you need to be there if fitness is your passion.
